You, the American public, are the United States Olympic Committee
"You are the athletes, striving to compete at the highest levels in sport. You
are the coaches, molding raw talent into national heroes. You are the fans,
showing your appreciation for the athletic effort put forth in victory and
defeat. You are the donors, generously giving so that what starts out as a
dream, ends in the reality of winning gold. You are the volunteers, offering
your time and guidance at the grassroots level, which help foster the Olympic
Spirit in so many young hearts.
You understand that the Olympic Games are a shining example for so many
things that are good in our world. Peace, harmony and unity are words that go
hand in hand with the ideals of the Olympic Movement, and you are committed to
ensuring that we set the tone for instilling these ideals in all of our outreach
efforts. You have bestowed upon us one of the country's most precious
commodities, the Olympic and Paralympic dreams of young men and women from every
corner of the United States. To help make the journey of these gifted athletes
successful, the USOC also depends on talented individuals from the member
organizations that help comprise the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic family.
Representatives from the National Governing Bodies, Disabled Sports
Organizations, Affiliated Sports Organizations and all the volunteers work
diligently to help produce some of the finest athletic results in the world.
Thank you, America. The athletic successes
already achieved are for you; the future triumphs on the world stage will
be achieved with you; and the final step to the top of the podium to
receive the gold will be made possible by you."
